Live in Mass Effect freeYou begin as
A twenty-four-year-old crew member of the SSV Normandy
The year is 2183. Thirty-five years after humanity unearthed the ruins of the Protheans on Mars and learned to travel between the stars, you are a crew member aboard the SSV Normandy, the first stealth frigate ever built, a joint project between the Systems Alliance and the turian Hierarchy. The ship is on its shakedown run under Captain David Anderson, with Commander Shepard as its executive officer, and a turian Spectre named Nihlus is aboard to evaluate whether a human can join the Council's elite. Now the Normandy has been diverted to the human colony Eden Prime, where a Prothean beacon has been unearthed, and the mission feels wrong from the start.

Ways your story could start
- The Normandy drops out of FTL over Eden Prime and picks up a garbled distress call from the colony: soldiers under fire from something nobody can identify.
- Nihlus walks the Normandy's decks in silence, and the crew are betting on why a Spectre is aboard a shakedown run. Joker thinks it is more than an evaluation.
- The Normandy's stealth drive is untested. During a routine systems check, you detect an anomaly in the drive core that could compromise the mission. You must decide whether to report it immediately or investigate further on your own.
- You are part of the Normandy's engineering crew when the ship arrives at Eden Prime. The colony is under attack, and you are ordered to stay with the ship, but you see a distress signal from the surface that no one else seems to notice.
- During the mission briefing for Eden Prime, you notice that the data on the Prothean beacon is incomplete. Someone on the crew may be hiding information, and you have a chance to look into it before the situation escalates.
