Live in The Winternight Trilogy freeYou begin as
A twenty-year-old of Lesnaya Zemlya
Lesnaya Zemlya clings to the edge of the great northern forest, where winter lasts half the year and the snow lies deeper than a man is tall. In every house a domovoi guards the hearth, in every bathhouse a bannik lurks, and in the stable a vazila watches over the horses. But the priest from Moscow has come to tell the villagers that the old spirits are demons, and the new wife of the boyar Pyotr Vladimirovich is afraid of what she sees in the corners of her home. As the people stop leaving bread for the spirits, the household guardians grow thin, the winters grow harder, and something hungry is waking in the woods.

- Your family's horse has fallen sick, and the old people say it is because nobody has fed the stable spirit in weeks.
- A traveller caught by the storm comes to your door at dusk, and swears he saw a rider on a white horse in the snow where no horse could go.
- Vasya comes running out of the forest at dusk, white as the snow, and will not say what she saw by the old oak.
- Dunya is telling the story of Morozko by the stove again, and for the first time, Pyotr's new wife does not leave the room.
