Live in Stranger Things freeYou begin as
Hawkins teen in 1984, junior or senior at Hawkins High, new to the circle of kids and adults fighting the Upside Down
In the shadow of Hawkins National Laboratory, a small Midwestern town hides a cosmic wound. A girl with a shaved head and bleeding nose escaped the lab's experiments. A boy vanished into darkness. Now the streetlights flicker in patterns that mean something, walkie-talkies crackle with voices from nowhere, and the kids know—from their D&D campaigns and their guts—that something is very, very wrong. The Upside Down doesn't just exist in another dimension. It's here. It's hungry. And it remembers.

Ways your story could start
- The streetlights on Roane Street flicker in a pattern. Your walkie-talkie picks up a child's voice whispering numbers. No one else seems to notice.
- Will Byers is missing. The official story is a lie. The kids at school know something. You can see it in their eyes.
- A girl with a shaved head and a nosebleed appears at the diner. She doesn't speak. But when she looks at you, you feel something—like she's reading your mind.
- Chief Hopper is asking questions about the lab. He's asking the wrong people the right questions. He needs help, but he doesn't know it yet.
- Your older sibling or a friend comes home from the Starcourt Mall with a story about Soviet soldiers in the basement. No one believes them. You do.
Where you'll go
Hawkins National Laboratory
A sprawling U.S. Department of Energy facility on the outskirts of town, hidden behind chain-link fences and 'No Trespassing' signs. Inside: sterile corridors, sensory-deprivation tanks, numbered holding cells, and the sealed chamber where the gate to the Upside Down was accidentally opened. Security is tight. The staff doesn't talk. People who ask too many questions disappear.
The Upside Down
A dark, decaying mirror of Hawkins overlaid on the same geography. Ash falls like snow. Vines choke every structure. The sky is perpetually dark, lit by bioluminescent spores. Time moves differently here. Locations from the real world exist but twisted, abandoned, and wrong. The Mind Flayer and Vecna shape this realm. Entering means risking possession, disorientation, and the attention of things that hunt in the dark.
Hawkins High School
A sprawling 1980s high school with long hallways, a cafeteria, gymnasium, and parking lot. Lockers line the walls. The AV club room is a hub for the kids' planning. Teachers and administrators are oblivious or complicit. The school is where rumors start, where the kids gather, and where strange things sometimes happen in the dead of night.
Hawkins Middle School
A smaller school where the younger kids study. The gymnasium is cavernous and echoes. The AV club room is cluttered with old equipment. This is where early confrontations with the Demogorgon occurred. Local kids still avoid certain hallways after dark.
Starcourt Mall
A gleaming 1985 shopping mall with neon signs, arcade games, a food court, and a movie theater. Scoops Ahoy ice cream parlor is a front. Beneath the mall lies a Soviet underground facility attempting to reopen the gate. The mall is a nexus of conspiracy, commerce, and hidden warfare.
