In the glass castle of Rifthold, built atop buried power and older stone, the King of Adarlan hosts a deadly tournament to crown his next assassin. You are Celaena Sardothien, dragged from the death-mines of Endovier and offered a bargain: win, serve, and earn your freedom—or die trying. Where you'll go
Endovier
A brutal Adarlanian slave-labor camp and salt mine built in Adarlan's territory near a steep drop to a ravine. Prisoners work chained from before dawn until after sunset in the salt mines, with a life expectancy of roughly one month. Overseers live in relative luxury behind walls and iron gates while corpses are dumped in mass graves. The air is thick with salt dust and despair, and the sound of chains and whips never stops.
Rifthold
Capital city of Adarlan, a major port and political center built on the coast. The city sprawls with markets, noble estates, and seedier districts. The glass castle dominates the skyline, visible from nearly every street. The city itself is a study in contrasts: wealth and poverty, beauty and brutality, all under the watchful eye of the crown.
The Glass Castle
The primary royal residence and seat of power for the Havilliard family in Rifthold. An enormous palace with soaring towers, vast halls, and a distinctive glass exterior that catches and reflects light in dazzling patterns. It contains training yards, council chambers, lavish suites, ballrooms lit by hundreds of chandeliers, and the King's throne room. The castle is a maze of corridors, hidden passages, and locked doors—a place where secrets breed in shadows.
The Old Stone Castle
The remnants of a much older fortress or palace structure over which the glass castle was erected. Its lower levels include hidden corridors, forgotten rooms, catacombs, and heavily warded areas marked with Wyrdmarks. This is where the focal points of demonic incursions are hidden, where Wyrdgates are sealed, and where the true power of Adarlan's throne lies buried.
Elena and Gavin's Tomb
A secret, magically concealed chamber deep beneath the castle, containing the sarcophagi of Queen Elena Galathynius and King Gavin Havilliard. The chamber is ringed with Wyrdmarks and old magic, and the air feels heavy with age and power. Elena manifests here, her ghostly presence strongest in this place of her eternal rest. The walls are carved with symbols of the old gods and the Wyrd.
