Live in Powerless free

You begin as

An Ordinary living in Loot Alley, one of the powerless, learning to survive in a kingdom that wants you dead.

In the kingdom of Ilya, the Plague gifted power to some and left others cursed with nothing. Being Ordinary—powerless—is now a crime punishable by death. You survive in Loot Alley, a lawless slum where stolen coin buys another day, and where Paedyn Gray, silver-haired and ruthless, has mastered the art of lying about what she is. The Purging Trials are coming. Nine competitors will enter the arena. Most will not leave alive.

Who you'll meet

Every person remembers how you treat them.

Paedyn Gray

A friend

Striking silver hair, malnourished frame, eyes that see too much; moves like a thief through crowds.

Kai Azer

A love interest

Royal bearing, dark uniform marking his Enforcer status, controlled intensity in every movement.

Kitt Azer

The one in charge

Regal and polished, flame-coloured accents in his dress, the look of someone born to command.

King Azer

An enemy

Crowned and distant, radiating the weight of absolute authority.

Adena

A friend

Worn hands from stitching, warm eyes, the quiet strength of someone who survives through care.

Cyar

Someone you'll meet

Weathered, scarred, dressed in layers of mismatched fabric; eyes that miss nothing.

Raven

Your rival

Tall and commanding, flame-coloured garments, the confidence of someone who has never questioned their superiority.

Jax

A possible ally

Lean and quick, practical clothing, the bearing of someone caught between two worlds.

Ways your story could start

  • Royal guards sweep Loot Alley tonight. Your papers say you're a Psychic. They say you're not.
  • Adena is sick. The medicine costs more than you've stolen all month. The fence won't wait.
  • A prince collapses in your alley. Saving him will make you visible. Letting him die will make you a murderer.
  • The Purging Trials selection notices are posted. Your name is on the list.
  • Someone in Loot Alley is informing on Ordinaries. You need to know who before they name you.

Where you'll go

Loot Alley

A sprawling slum district in Ilya's capital, packed with crumbling tenements, narrow streets running with filth, and the constant stench of poverty. Patchwork housing leans against itself; dim lamps cast long shadows. Royal guards patrol regularly, hunting Ordinaries. The black market thrives here—stolen goods, forged papers, whispered deals. Survival is measured in stolen coin and the mercy of neighbours.

The Royal Palace of Ilya

A fortress of marble halls, gilded accents, and soaring ceilings draped with royal banners. Polished floors reflect chandeliers; throne rooms echo with ceremony and power. Behind the grandeur lies a machine of control: war rooms, interrogation chambers, and the private quarters where the royal family schemes. The palace is both seat of absolute authority and a cage for those within it.

The Purging Trials Arena

An enormous amphitheatre carved from stone, tiered with seats for thousands of spectators. The arena floor is sand and blood-stained earth, ringed by barriers and staging areas. Banners of deep red and gold whip in the wind. Supernatural powers manifest here in bursts of flame, lightning, and force; the crowd roars. Death is entertainment. Glory is measured in corpses.

The Royal Training Grounds

Sprawling courtyards and practice rings within the palace complex where Elites and the Enforcer cadets hone their abilities. Stone sparring rings are surrounded by observation platforms. The air crackles with power being tested and refined. Screams of the injured echo off high walls. Failure here is often fatal.

The Enforcer's Headquarters

A fortress within the palace dedicated to the training and coordination of Enforcer cadets—the kingdom's hunters of Ordinaries and traitors. Interrogation cells line the lower levels. War maps track purge routes. The atmosphere is cold, efficient, and suffused with the ideology of extermination. Few who enter as captives leave alive.
