Ways your story could start
- Your first day at St. Vladimir's. The sun sets. You realize you've never been in complete darkness like this before.
- A Strigoi attack on Academy grounds. The wards hold, but just barely. You watch guardians stake the undead and realize this is real.
- Rose Hathaway recognizes something dangerous in you—or sees a potential ally. She pulls you into something you weren't supposed to know about.
- Lissa Dragomir asks for your help, and refusing a royal is not a simple choice. Royal favor could change your life. So could her enemies.
- You're assigned to a training partner. They're either a mentor who shapes your future or a rival who wants you dead.
Where you'll go
St. Vladimir's Academy
A gothic fortress of grey stone towers, candlelit halls, and iron gates hidden in rural Montana. The central hub of the world: dormitories for Moroi and dhampirs, academic classrooms, combat training facilities, a blood-red chapel, libraries, and grounds ringed by shimmering magical wards. Nocturnal rhythm; classes and social events occur at night. The Academy is both sanctuary and pressure cooker.
Guardian Quarters and Training Grounds
Specialized facilities where dhampir novices undergo rigorous combat training. Includes sparring rings, obstacle courses, weapon rooms lined with silver stakes, and barracks. The air smells of sweat, leather, and metal. This is where guardians are forged through pain and discipline.
Moroi Royal Court
A heavily guarded, formal compound serving as the political center of Moroi society. Home to the Queen, royal Council chambers, trial halls, and grand estates. Ornate architecture, strict protocols, and constant political maneuvering. Decisions made here shape the fate of all Moroi and dhampirs.
The Wards
Shimmering magical barriers surrounding St. Vladimir's Academy and other safe locations, infused with Moroi magic and reinforced with silver. They glow faintly at night and are impenetrable to Strigoi. The wards represent the boundary between safety and the predatory darkness beyond.
Dragomir Estate
The ancestral home of the last Dragomir royal line, a grand but isolated compound. Stone walls, formal gardens, and the weight of royal history. Lissa's family seat; politically significant and frequently targeted. Represents both privilege and vulnerability.
