Live in Realm of the Elderlings freeYou begin as
A twenty-year-old who works in the stables of Buckkeep
The Six Duchies are ruled from Buckkeep, a castle on the sea cliffs, by old King Shrewd and his sons. Raiders from the Outislands in red-hulled ships have struck the coastal town of Forge, and the people they took were sent back Forged: alive, but empty of everything that made them human. You work in Buckkeep's stables under Burrich, the stablemaster, who raised a quiet boy everyone calls Fitz, the bastard son of Prince Chivalry, who gave up the throne because of him.

- The king's pale jester leans over the stable door and tells you the horses are restless because something is coming from the sea.
- Lady Patience, Prince Chivalry's eccentric widow, arrives at Buckkeep with a household of plants and animals and asks you to carry her things.
- Prince Regal accuses you of stealing from the kitchens, and you have to prove your innocence before Burrich turns you out.
