Live in Powder Mage freeYou begin as
A twenty-two-year-old of Adopest
The streets of Adopest are quiet this morning, but the quiet is the kind that follows a storm. Last night Field Marshal Tamas, commander of the army of Adro and a powder mage, seized the capital, overthrew King Manhouch, and killed every member of the Royal Cabal; the king and his nobles are going to the guillotine. Each sorcerer died with the same words: that Tamas could not break Kresimir's Promise. You live in Adopest, and the city is waking up to a world without a king, and to rumours of a cabal sorcerer who escaped.

Ways your story could start
- Soldiers are pasting notices on every wall: the king is dead, the Royal Cabal is dead, and the Field Marshal asks for calm.
- A man staggers into the tavern on your street the night after the coup, bleeding, and asks you to hide a folded note for him until morning.
- A soldier stops at your door and asks, very tensely, whether you saw anyone leave the palace hill last night.
- An investigator with a cane asks you, politely, whether you have ever heard the words 'Kresimir's Promise'.
- Down at the market, a cheerful cook is feeding the crowds for free and telling anyone who will listen that he is a god.
