Live in The Priory of the Orange Tree freeYou begin as
A young adult who serves at the court of Inys
In the queendom of Inys, Queen Sabran the Ninth sits on a throne that has held for a thousand years, her bloodline, the Inysh believe, the only thing keeping the Nameless One, an ancient fire-breathing wyrm, bound beneath the sea. But she has no heir, assassins stalk the palace corridors, and her enemies have just sent her closest friend away on a fool's errand. You serve at court, where a quiet lady-in-waiting from the South, Ead Duryan, seems to be everywhere the danger is, while far to the East, a young woman called Tané has trained all her life to ride a dragon.

- A letter from the exiled Lord Arteloth Beck falls into your hands, and the queen's lady-in-waiting, Ead Duryan, notices you reading it.
- In the night a knife is found in the queen's bedchamber, and the guards swear nobody passed them.
- You are sent with a message to the queen's private chambers, and through the half-open door you see a glint of steel.
- A stranger from the South in the garden asks you to give a sealed pouch to the lady Ead Duryan, and to no one else.
