You log in as a penniless newcomer in Serabourg, the capital of the young human kingdom of Rosenheim, where another new player called Weed is already making a name for himself by training harder than anyone and never wasting a copper. In real life he is Lee Hyun, once the strongest player of the old game The Continent of Magic, who sold his account to pay the loan sharks hounding his family and now has to earn it all back.

Ways your story could start
- You log into Royal Road at the Citadel of Serabourg and cannot leave the city for four weeks. In the training hall, the instructor Docke Lancer points his wooden sword at a newcomer who has been beating the same scarecrow for days and asks if you can keep up.
- A rumour runs around the fountain of Serabourg about a sculptor who could carve the moonlight, and a frugal newcomer called Weed has been asking everyone about it. You are not the only one who wants to know where it leads.
- Sir Midvale is riding out with a force of new recruits to clear the kobolds from the Lair of Litvart, three hours from Serabourg, and he needs every pair of hands he can get.
- Outside the city walls at night, a small party of newcomers, an archer, a fire mage, a monk and a cleric, is looking for one more player to hunt with.
- A merchant in Baran Village, south of Serabourg, is buying whatever loot newcomers bring back from the mountains, and paying well.
