A twenty-year-old player who logged into Sword Art Online on launch day
The bell in the central plaza rings, and ten thousand players are teleported into the square. Ways your story could start
- You step into the Town of Beginnings just as the bell rings and Kayaba's announcement freezes the crowd. A player near you whispers that the first-floor boss is Illfang the Kobold Lord, and that a raid is forming in Tolbana.
- A panicked player grabs your arm outside the Black Iron Palace. Her friend's HP hit zero in the fields an hour ago and his avatar shattered into light, and his name has just been struck through on the Monument of Life. She does not know what to do.
- Two players in the plaza are arguing about whether to stay in the Town of Beginnings and wait for rescue or go out and fight. One of them turns to you and asks what you are going to do.
- A merchant in the Town of Beginnings offers you a map of the first-floor labyrinth for fifty col. He swears the safe route is marked, and that a rare one-handed sword drops in a room nobody has found.
- Months later, on the thirty-fifth floor, a girl with a small blue feathered dragon on her shoulder asks you to be her partner for a quest in the Forest of Wandering. Her dragon's life depends on it.
