Ways your story could start

- During a combat training exercise, your weapon form malfunctions at a critical moment, nearly injuring a classmate. The instructor, Sid Barrett, pulls you aside afterward and tells you that your soul wavelength is unstable. He offers you a choice: remedial training or a dangerous solo mission to prove yourself.
- You overhear Black Star loudly declaring that he will defeat you in the upcoming school tournament to prove he is the strongest. Later that day, Tsubaki approaches you quietly and apologizes for his behavior, but warns that he is serious. She offers to help you train.
- While exploring the lower levels of the DWMA, you stumble upon a sealed door that should not be there. A faint whisper comes from behind it, speaking your name. Before you can investigate further, a teacher finds you and ushers you away, telling you to forget what you saw.
- A witch disguised as a student approaches you in the library and offers you a deal: she will give you information on the location of a powerful evil soul if you help her sneak into the DWMA's restricted archives. She claims it is for a harmless research project.
