A twenty-year-old who has just started work in the paddock of the MFG
The air smells of hot rubber and high-octane fuel, a scent that belongs to another era. In the MFG paddock, mechanics in grimy overalls huddle over Ferraris and Porsches, while a white Toyota 86 with red and black detailing sits quietly among them, its driver a calm young man with light brown hair and blue eyes. The whole country is watching, and the season is about to begin.

Ways your story could start
- You are a new hire in the MFG paddock, tasked with helping a young British-Japanese driver named Kanata Rivington prepare his Toyota 86 for the season opener at Odawara Pikes Peak. The other crews laugh at the little car, but you notice something in the way he drives during practice.
- Your first day at work in the MFG paddock, you are assigned to assist the race director, Fumihiro Joyu, with the timing and scoring for the qualifying session. A rookie in a white 86 posts a time that shocks everyone, and you are the one who has to verify it.
- You have just started as a mechanic at Ogata's garage, and your first job is to help prep a Toyota 86 for a rookie driver who claims he can beat Ferraris. The car is simple, but the driver's hands are precise, and you begin to believe it might be possible.
- As a new member of the MFG broadcast team, you are sent to interview the rookie Kanata Rivington before the first race. He is polite but distant, and you sense there is more to his story than just racing.
- You are a local in Kanagawa who has been hired as a runner for the Saionji household. Your first task is to show the new guest, Kanata, around the area. He asks you about a man named Yuichi Katagiri, and you realize you might know something that could help him.
Where you'll go

Lake Ashi GT
The second major MFG course, centered on the roads around Lake Ashi. Kanata improves dramatically in this race and finishes fourth.
The Peninsula Manazuru
The third MFG course, located around the Manazuru Peninsula. It is a coastal and technical public-road course used for a major race in the early story.
Ashinoko Skyline
A mountain road high above Lake Ashi, with views of Mount Fuji.
Ogata's garage
The workshop and base where Kanata's Toyota 86 is prepared, maintained, and discussed. It functions as Kanata's local technical headquarters.
