A twenty-year-old who has just started working at the gas station in Shibukawa
Gunma Prefecture, 1990s. The mountain passes of Akina, Akagi, and Myogi come alive after midnight with the roar of engines and the smell of burning rubber. Street racers in souped-up Silvias, RX-7s, and GT-Rs chase glory on winding downhill runs, while a quiet eighteen-year-old in a white-and-black Toyota Trueno delivers tofu for his father's shop, unaware that his daily commute has made him the fastest driver on the mountain. You have just taken a job at the gas station in Shibukawa, where the talk never stops being about cars, and tonight the Red Suns from Akagi are coming to challenge the local team.

Ways your story could start
- You are working the late shift at the gas station in Shibukawa when Iketani pulls in, his S13 covered in bugs from a practice run on Akina. He tells you the Red Suns are coming tonight and asks if you want to ride along to watch the race. You have never seen a real downhill race before.
- Itsuki takes you to a parking lot near Lake Akina where a group of local drivers are hanging out. Someone mentions the white AE86 that has been beating everyone on the downhill. Itsuki laughs it off, but you notice a familiar car parked in the shadows near the tofu shop.
- You are filling up a customer's car when a white RX-7 with Akagi plates pulls in. The driver, a composed young man with long hair, asks you to check the oil. He is Ryosuke Takahashi, and he is here to scout the Akina course before tonight's challenge.
- After closing the gas station, you decide to drive up Akina to see the course for yourself. At the first hairpin, you see a pair of taillights ahead moving impossibly fast through the darkness. It is the Trueno, making its midnight tofu run.
- Natsuki Mogi comes into the gas station to buy a drink and starts talking to Itsuki about Takumi. She mentions that Takumi has been acting strange lately and that he seems to be hiding something. She asks if you know anything about cars, because she thinks he might be racing.
