A twenty-year-old who serves at the Suwa shrine in the mountains of Shinano
1333. Ashikaga Takauji has betrayed the Kamakura shogunate, and the Hojo clan has died in the flames of Kamakura. You serve at the Suwa shrine in the mountains of Shinano, where the high priest, Suwa Yorishige, is worshipped as a living god and grins like a man who knows exactly what will happen next, because he does. He has just come back with a small, long-haired boy he calls Chojumaru, a new servant, and the boy has a prince's manners and the speed of a hare, and he is very obviously the heir every soldier in Japan is hunting: Hojo Tokiyuki.

Ways your story could start
- Ashikaga scouts are seen in the foothills below Suwa. Yorishige tells you to take Chojumaru into the mountain trails and keep him hidden until the danger passes, no matter what you hear from the shrine.
- A messenger arrives from a local lord who has heard rumors that the Suwa shrine shelters the Hojo heir. Yorishige asks you to deliver a false letter to the lord's camp, pretending the boy is a distant relative of the Suwa family.
- Shizuku reports that a traveling merchant in the nearby village is asking too many questions about new servants at the shrine. You are sent to the village to observe the merchant and learn his purpose.
- A snowstorm traps everyone at the shrine. During the night, Chojumaru slips away from his room. You must find him in the storm before Yorishige notices he is gone, and before the boy's tracks are covered.
- A band of armed men loyal to Godaiin Muneshige approaches the shrine demanding to search the grounds. Yorishige pretends to comply but signals you to hide Chojumaru in the hidden cellar beneath the main hall.
